Survey reveals 61% of mums are trying to find ways to get kids to move and exercise more.

With Australian families spending more time at home due to lockdowns, The Healthy Mummy is helping families turn TV time into fast family fitness workouts with the introduction of their new family friendly Mum and Kids Workouts, available now available on The Healthy Mummy app.

With 57%  of people doing more exercise and 51%  turning to TV in the last Australian lockdowns during 2020, The Healthy Mummy founder, Rhian Allen wanted to expand healthy options for stressed out families looking to do more than bake or craft while at home together.

The newly launched Healthy Mummy kids workouts showcase a Healthy Mummy instructor leading kids and their parents through exercises that keep kids engaged for no more than 10-minutes to shake off their screen time and move around –  perfect for remote learning recess or lockdown lunch hours.

The Healthy Mummy has also partnered with Optus promoting home fitness and offering a series of their family-friendly workouts, accessible through OS Fitness, available on the Optus Sport site and app.

The latest Healthy Mummy survey of 2,500 mums revealed that 67% prefer doing at-home workouts compared to gym workouts. The survey also found 72%  mothers believe kids are encouraged to move when they see their parents exercise and another 61%  are trying to find ways to get kids to move and exercise more.

Rhian Allen, who has more than a 1.5 millions mums on her own platform, said:

“Our new 10-minute kids workout videos is designed to motivate kids to be active.  Family fitness is so important, not just for physical health but for mental health too.

Unlike most fitness videos targeted to adults with workout experience, these workouts help adults and kids bond through simple exercise moves.

We always listen to our community and create content they ask for. Since the launch of these new at home workout videos, we have been blown away with the positive feedback and will be creating kids fitness content as ongoing.”

Other key insights from The Healthy Mummy exercise survey include:

  • – 59% like at-home instructor-led workout videos
  • – 74% say the mother is the biggest influence over kids being active
  • – 80% like to include technology as part of their fitness routine.
