EFM Health Clubs celebrates 30 years!

A commitment to a quality fitness industry product and service offering and a focus on driving industry leadership sees EFM Health Clubs celebrate 30 years in business in September 2021.

EFM Health Clubs are a fitness franchise, established in Adelaide, South Australia in 1991. EFM Health Clubs have almost 50 clubs across five states in Australia – New South Wales, Queensland, Tasmania, Victoria and of course South Australia – including at Unley, where the original club and Franchise Support Centre are still based today – and several original members still attend regularly.

EFM’s passion is clear and objective is simple – to combine the affordability of a typical gym membership with the highly tailored and personalised nature of a personal training program. It is all rolled it up into the unique EFM Personalised Training memberships and programs.

EFM members receive the ongoing coaching and support experienced in a personal training program, but in an incredibly affordable membership price. It’s this unique offering to members that has seen EFM Health Clubs sweep across Australia and proudly fill the need for affordable, but highly personalised, fitness programs.

EFM Health Clubs Chief Executive Officer, Peter Rohde, said EFM’s unique approach and point of difference within the fitness industry has contributed significantly to its success and longevity as a business and its many industry and business awards. Peter took up the position of CEO in 2014 and is proud that EFM remains a privately owned, Australian business.

“We are delighted to be celebrating our 30th anniversary year in 2021, and proud to have created a network of around 50 health clubs nationally offering employment opportunities to hundreds of people and helping around 5000 members achieve their health and fitness goals. Some of those members have been with us since Day 1 in 1991 and we’re incredibly grateful for that!

“We are particularly proud of our ability to meet the challenges of the last few years, especially enduring the uncertainty and restrictions caused by the global pandemic. As a franchise group, we have responded to the changes well and I am incredibly proud of everyone in our team.”

EFM Health Clubs initially operated under the name Executive Fitness Management (EFM) when it was established in 1991 in Unley, South Australia. EFM was founded by Shane Radbone, ex SANFL and AFL footballer.

Peter explains:

“We’re unique in what we do in many ways… one of our key differences is that we actually specialise in running Health Clubs from within hospitals and schools, in addition to our many public sites.

“We operate several clubs from within hospitals throughout Australia, where we provide health and fitness programs for the hospital staff. We also have clubs located onsite at schools. Within these clubs, we run fitness programs for the school community and are proud to be playing a role in keeping staff fit and healthy, but also in fighting childhood obesity through our student “Fit 2 Play” sessions. The majority of our clubs located onsite at hospitals and schools are also open to the local community and general public as well.”

How we’re celebrating

During September, EFM Health Clubs are running a FREE online challenge across its Facebook and Instagram accounts (@efmhealthclubs). The EFM 30 years 30 Day Challenge will see participants of all fitness levels and ages from right across Australia participate in a daily exercise challenge for the chance to go in the draw to win weekly prizes and an overall grand prize.

It’s the perfect way for everyone to get involved and celebrate while our NSW and Vic clubs are currently closed due to lockdowns.
