Good quality bone broth is the cornerstone of good gut and digestive health, which is directly related to a strong immune system, better mental health and general well-being.

Sisters Linda Vantaggiato and Jane Crawford’s are The Broth Sisters.

The Broth Sisters launched their business in 2015 in Melbourne and Sydney, and specialises in artisanal broth, slow cooked over many hours using cartilage rich bones to maximise nutrition and flavour.

Linda says while bone broth is a revered ancient tradition, it has come back with a vengeance. Fans include everyone from the health-conscious and weight-conscious to athletes, paleo or keto dieters and celebrities. Bone broth is also great to boost the health of pregnant women, from conception to postnatal care.

“With its high collagen content, good quality bone broth is the cornerstone of good gut and digestive health, which is directly related to a strong immune system, along with our mental health and general well-being. It’s also said to reduce leaky gut, reduce joint inflammation, and promote healthy skin, hair and nails,” she says.

Following in their dad’s footsteps, The Broth Sisters cook their broths to order, in small batches, simmering at the perfect temperature to ensure they extract the most nourishment without destroying any nutrients.

While they have always used ethically-sourced quality produce from local farmers, the sisters have taken their commitment to the next level. They have recently partnered with Provenir, a newly launched Australian business that offers the highest welfare meat available on the market.

Provenir animals are grass fed, free range and, in an Australian-first, processed on-farm via a mobile unit.

Linda explains:

“We love the fact that Provenir animals are raised in the most humane way possible, the handling techniques ensure the animals remain calm and are respected, and they are processed on site to reduce the unnecessary stress of live transporting them elsewhere.”

“The gelatin content of our broths is second to none when using the prime quality bones from Provenir’s livestock, and the broth has a lovely full bodied flavour. It really is the best of the best.”

In keeping with the sisters’ no-waste ethos, Provenir also promotes artisan butchery, a term which refers to the practice of valuing and using every possible part of an animal.

Apart from bone broths, The Broth Sisters has also expanded its range to include natural plant- based vegetable stock and plant-based savoury sipping broths in a teabag. The healthy teabag range was dreamt up by Linda, a former flight attendant, as a way for busy people to enjoy the flavours of the world, quickly and easily.
