The Australian Institute of Fitness (AIF), Australia’s leading fitness professional training organisation, has renewed and reinforced its partnership with Les Mills Asia Pacific (LMAP) the market leader in group fitness and team training experiences in Australia and Southeast Asia.

For those whom the name Les Mills rings a bell for reasons they can’t quite put their finger on, the names of the company’s workouts will certainly be familiar. From BODYPUMP® and BODYATTACK®, to BODYCOMBAT® and RPMTM, Les Mills offers 14 different group fitness programs, and also has club-based VIRTUAL and home-based ON DEMAND streaming options.

Globally, Les Mills workouts are licensed by 20,000 clubs in over 100 countries, with more than 140,000 accredited instructors delivering group workouts to over seven million participants weekly.

AIF has a strategy of collaborating with allied fitness industry businesses that are well positioned to benefit its graduating fitness professional students. The Les Mills slogan ‘For a fitter planet’ aligns perfectly with AIF’s mission of creating ‘Warriors against SeDS’ (sedentary death syndrome), making the renewal of the longstanding partnership a natural progression.

AIF has long been delivering Australia’s leading Group Exercise Leader (GEL) short course for those wanting to fast track their journeys to becoming Les Mills Instructors. Delivered online, GEL (SISSS00113) is a base fitness industry qualification that, when completed in conjunction with a Les Mills program certification, enables group fitness fans to not just participate in, but also instruct their favourite Les Mills program.

AIF’s newly updated Fitness Coach qualification (Certificate III in Fitness SIS30315) provides an additional route to becoming a Les Mills Instructor for graduates who also complete a Les Mills program certification.

The skills required to be a Les Mills Instructor means that those who decide to expand their fitness career opportunities by also becoming a personal trainer or gym instructor can do so more easily with the AIF. Thanks to RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning), Les Mills Instructors will have already completed certain Units of Competency in their GEL certification.

Discussing the evolution of the partnership, Kim Horner, AIF’s Head of Operations, said:

“AIF and Les Mills Asia Pacific have enjoyed a mutually beneficial working relationship for many years. With a shared vision of increasing physical and mental wellbeing in our communities through increased participation in exercise, we are very much focused on the same goals.

“LMAP’s history in the fitness industry, its policy of continual evolution and growth, and its insistence on delivering the highest quality of group exercise experiences courtesy of the very highest quality instructors resonates strongly with AIF’s ethos. We have shared much of our past with LMAP and look forward to an even closer alignment as we create the next generation of fitness professionals and experiences.”

“Les Mills Asia Pacific offers the world’s most successful group fitness solutions for Clubs, and opens up a global career path for Instructors,” said Ryan Hogan, Chief Executive Officer at Les Mills Asia Pacific. “We’ve had a long-standing association with the AIF, because working together results in expanded career opportunities for the audiences of both brands. This is why officially partnering with AIF is a natural synergy for Les Mills Asia Pacific, and why we’re proud to call the Australian Institute of Fitness our preferred training provider for Certificates III and IV in Fitness and First Aid.”
